D-TONE AMPS is a boutique European builder specializing in hand-wired tube guitar amplifiers that replicate the iconic D-style circuits: the Overdrive Special and Steel String Singer, originally designed by Alexander “Howard” Dumble®.

Although the D-TONE brand officially launched in 2022, the story began in 2010 when the team behind it started cloning classic amps like *Fender®, *Marshall®, *VOX®, and *Soldano® for their own use. The results were shockingly accurate—so much so that fellow guitarists began asking where they could get one.

Because original Dumble® amps are essentially unobtainable, D-TONE focused on capturing that legendary sound by creating faithful clones. These aren’t reinterpretations or inspired designs—they’re detailed, carefully built replicas designed to match the tone and behavior of the originals.

Each amp is point-to-point hand-wired on a turret board, just like the classics. D-TONE doesn’t use kits or prefab PCBs. Instead, they source NOS-style components, custom transformers, Mallory® 150 “mustard” capacitors, and Tube Amp Doctor® tubes to get as close to vintage magic as possible.

D-TONE’s amps are built by experienced electronic engineers who also happen to be guitarists. This rare combo ensures not only technical precision but also musicality and feel in every design. Their current offerings include the Overdrive Specialist and Steel String Super (available as a head + 1×12″ or 2×12″ cab)—authentic tributes to the most iconic Dumble® models.

They’ve modeled their builds after amps used by Robben Ford, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Just like the originals, each unit is slightly different and hand-tuned.

Every D-TONE amp complies with CE regulations including EMC, LVD, and RoHS. That means they’re not only tonally faithful but also fully safe and certified for use across the EU.
